Warhammer 40K: Darktide Released late last year on PC, a dark and chunky version Left 4 dead is set in the grim, distant future of Games Workshop. It was okay! Had its issues, but was OK. However, those issues persisted into 2023, which is why the developers are shelving an Xbox version of the game while they get to work fixing them.

In a statement released earlier today, Fatshark says they intended to “create a highly engaging and stable game with a level of depth that will keep you playing for weeks” but “didn’t live up to those expectations.”

As a result, they are not only delaying “seasonal content” for the PC version, but also delaying the game’s release on Xbox Series X|S.

OPEN LETTER TO OUR PLAYERS

We are extremely proud of our ability at Fatshark to deliver a game for millions to enjoy. This was what we set out to do with Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to create a highly engaging and stable game with a level of depth that will keep you playing for weeks instead of hours.

We did not live up to those expectations.

In the coming months, our sole focus will be to address the feedback many of you have. In particular, we will focus on delivering a complete crafting system, a more rewarding progression loop, and continue to work on game stability and performance optimization.

This also means we will be postponing our seasonal content rollout and Xbox Series XIS launch. We will also suspend the upcoming releases of premium cosmetics. We just couldn’t continue down this road knowing that we didn’t cover many feedback points in the game today.

Thanks for playing and providing feedback. We really appreciate it. It has and will continue to help shape the game we love.

Martin Wahlund CEO and co-founder of Fatshark

I didn’t think the PC version was that bad! Sure it had issues, but online games from smaller teams like this often do. On the other hand, smaller teams often don’t have the resources to do this all in one, so if this is what they want to do with what they have, this is what they are going to do with what they have!
